After Stealing Her Patent & Publicly Humiliating His “Worthless” Kitchen-Maid Girlfriend For A Rich Heiress, He Realizes The World’s Most Powerful Billionaire CEO Pulling Up To The Banquet Is Actually Her Secret Older Brother Coming To Destroy Him!

Part 1: The Stolen Light

The warm, buttery scent of freshly baked vanilla cupcakes hung heavy in the narrow kitchen of Douglas Academy, but for Anna, the air felt suffocating. Her hands, dusted with flour and raw from hours of scrub work, trembled as she held out a thick leather-bound folder.

“Herman,” she whispered, her voice tight with a mixture of exhaustion and profound hope. “I finished it. Every calculation, every magical blueprint for the lotus-petal dermal regeneration potion. It’s ready.”

Herman Drake, standing by the stainless steel prep table in his pressed sorcery-student robe, snatched the folder. His fingers flipped through the crisp pages of complex arcane formulas and botanical ratios. A quiet, greedy light flickered in his eyes before he smoothed his expression into a warm, affectionate smile.

“Anna, I’ve worked on this patent for three years,” Herman said smoothly, slipping the folder inside his leather satchel. “I’m sure it’ll win you the Douglas Innovation Award.”

Anna blinked, her dark eyes filling with gentle warmth. “Oh, Herman… it’s your patent now. Are you sure you want to take it?”

“No one’s going to believe a worthless orphan working in a kitchen to make tuition came up with this patent anyway,” Herman said softly, stepping closer and resting his hands on her slender shoulders. His voice sounded tender, but the words carried an undercurrent of cold truth that stabbed at her chest. He tilted his head, searching her face. “Anna, you really trust me with this, don’t you?”

“Of course I’m sure,” Anna said softly, resting her palm against his cheek. “I love you, Herman. And I owe you my life. If you hadn’t saved me five years ago from that drowning accident, I wouldn’t even be here.”

“Come here, you,” Herman murmured, pulling her into a brief, tight embrace. Over her head, his face transformed into a mask of cruel mockery. He leaned down, his mouth near her ear. “Too bad you lost your memory in that accident, or you’d remember being a prodigy. Good for me you don’t remember a thing. And I get credit for all your work.”

Anna pulled back, completely oblivious to his unspoken words, her cheeks flushing with modest happiness. “I’ve got to go. I have to set up my cake stall outside to make extra cash, and then bake ten thousand mini-cakes for the awards banquet tonight.”

“That’s my hard worker,” Herman hummed, patting her shoulder.

“My family’s coming to watch me win and see me propose to the love of my life,” Anna continued, her voice trembling with excitement. “I’ve been dreaming about that since the day we met, Herman.”

Herman paused, his eyes narrowing slightly as an idea took root. “Which reminds me… that wedding fund of yours. Do you think we should transfer it to my account? Might be safer that way. Totally up to you, though. No pressure, babe. I brought the transfer papers right here—that is, only if you want to.”

Without a second thought, Anna took the pen from his hand and signed her name at the bottom of the bank document. She handed all her hard-earned savings away with a smile full of innocent devotion. “Of course, love. See you at the banquet.”

“See you there, Anna,” Herman said, waving as she rushed out the kitchen door with a heavy tray of pastries.

The moment the heavy door clicked shut behind her, Herman pulled out the transfer document, staring at her signature with absolute disgust. He spat onto the freshly swept tile floor. “What an idiot. She really thinks I’d marry a worthless orphan like her? Once I win this award, it’s bye-bye, Anna.”

Unaware of the serpent she had just fed, Anna hurried down the polished stone corridors toward the courtyard. Beneath her scratchy cotton apron, her hand reached into her pocket, fingers brushing against a worn silver charm. Suddenly, the ancient stone set into the charm began to pulse with a erratic, crimson glow.

Anna stopped dead in her tracks, staring down at her glowing pocket. “It only flickers when there’s danger,” she murmured to herself, her breath catching in her throat. “Why is it flickering now?”

Far across the city, inside the gilded glass skyscraper of the Douglas Corporation, the atmosphere was thick with tension.

Darien Douglas, Supreme Sorcerer and billionaire CEO of the world’s most powerful magical conglomerate, sat behind a massive obsidian desk. His face was pale, his eyes sharp yet burdened with a decade of grief. Beside him stood his chief assistant, Kate, holding a stack of executive folders.

“Sir, any news about my sister?” Darien asked, his voice low and raspy.

“Not yet. I’m sorry, sir,” Kate replied softly. She hesitated, placing a velvet-bound application on his desk. “This just arrived. Where did you find this? These are the top applications for the Douglas Innovation Award. You’ve been invited to preside over this year’s awards banquet at Douglas Academy. It’s the top magic school in the country, run by our company.”

Darien rubbed his temples, staring at the magical schematic attached to the top dossier. Suddenly, his breath hitched. The intricate diagram of a lotus-petal potion, designed to actively regenerate damaged skin, stared back at him.

His mind flashed back ten years—to a sunlit garden, to a little girl with bright, laughing eyes holding up a wooden spoon filled with crushed pink petals.

“Darien, I’m afraid you can’t go outside the house anymore,” his mother’s voice echoed in his memory. “It’ll worsen your magical bruising. You must stay indoors.”

“Don’t be sad, Darien!” a young girl’s voice giggled back, her tiny hands sticky with flower juice. “When I grow up, I’ll invent a potion that actively regenerates damaged skin! Then you can go anywhere you want!”

Darien’s hands began to shake uncontrollably as he traced the ink on the parchment. “When Anna was little… she wanted to invent a potion exactly like the one in this application. And the signature emblem… the lotus. It’s her. It’s my sister, Anna!” He stood up so fast his leather chair crashed backward onto the floor. “We’re going to Douglas Academy to find my sister. Now!”

“Sir, wait!” Kate called out, stepping into his path with a look of extreme caution. “That patent application is from a senior student named Herman Drake. His father, Gareth Drake, is a professor of sorcery studies at Douglas Academy.”

Darien’s eyes flared with intense blue light. “Herman Drake? Does he have someone working with him?”

“Herman has a girlfriend who also studies there,” Kate read quickly from her tablet. “She… she works as a kitchen helper at the school.”

“Girlfriend?” Darien demanded, his heart hammering against his ribs. “What is her name?”

“It says here… her name is Anna.”

Darien froze, the ambient magic in the room crackling so violently that the glass light fixtures buzzed. “Anna?”

“Pardon me, sir,” Kate said gently, trying to ground him. “But we’ve had too many impersonators claiming to be your long-lost sister over the last decade. Herman’s girlfriend is listed as an orphan with no family history. I’ll get her medical records and order a DNA test immediately to be sure.”

Darien looked down at the patent application one last time, his chest aching with a raw, desperate hope. “I like the patent,” he commanded, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “Declare Herman Drake as the winner. The banquet tonight will be held in his honor. Increase the award money from one million to ten million dollars, and promote Herman’s father to Dean of Sorcery Studies.”

Kate blinked in shock. “Sir? Ten million?”

“Do it!” Darien whispered, gazing out the window at the distant spires of the academy. “Could it be you, little one? How I wish to see you again… and taste the cakes you used to make.”

Part 2: The Meeting on the Street

The afternoon heat was suffocating along the cobblestone avenue leading to Douglas Academy. Anna stood beside a humble wooden cart, wiping sweat from her brow as she arranged a dozen freshly baked miniature sponge cakes topped with candied lotus petals. Her apron was stained with flour, her feet aching from standing for hours without a break.

Suddenly, the screech of tires tore through the air.

A sleek black limousine swerved violently to avoid a speeding delivery truck, skidding dangerously toward the sidewalk. Anna didn’t think; her instincts took over. In a flash of raw, reflexive motion, she thrust her hands forward. A subtle, invisible ripple of spatial magic burst from her palms, nudging the heavy luxury vehicle just enough to safely halt its slide against the curb.

Inside the car, Darien straightened up, his hand reflexively grasping his silver sorcerer’s staff. He looked out the window, his heart pounding. “Stop the car! Watch out!”

The rear door opened, and Darien stepped out onto the hot pavement, staring at the young girl standing near the wooden pastry cart.

“Wow, that was powerful,” Darien murmured under his breath, sensing the lingering trace of ancient, pure magic in the air. He looked at the girl—her hair tied in a loose bun, her eyes bright despite the smudges of flour on her cheeks. I never had a normal life of my own, he thought, feeling a sudden, intense surge of warmth, but I wish I had an older brother’s chance to protect someone like her.

“Are you all right, young lady?” Darien asked aloud, stepping closer.

Anna wiped her hands on her apron, giving him a bright, sweet smile. “Thank you, sir. I’m fine! It was just a close call.”

Darien looked at her bare shoulders under the scorching sun. “It’s scorching out here. Wouldn’t you rather be inside, young lady?”

“Oh, I can’t,” Anna explained cheerfully, her face lighting up with genuine happiness. “My boyfriend’s going to propose to me tonight at the banquet! I’m trying to make a thousand dollars to buy gifts for him and his family. That’s why I’m here on my lunch break from my kitchen shift. If I can make him happy, it’ll be worth all the hard work!”

Darien felt a strange pang in his chest. “Now that’s true love,” he said softly, a sad smile touching his lips. “My little sister was around your age. She loved baking cakes, just like you. I’d love to buy one… and I hope your dreams come true, kid.”

Anna picked up a beautifully decorated lotus-petal cake and wrapped it carefully in parchment paper, handing it to him with both hands. “Thank you, sir! But the cake is on me—as a thank-you for not crashing into my stall!”

Darien chuckled warmly, accepting the small package. “It was nothing. I’d have done the same for my little sister.”

As Darien reached into his pocket for his wallet, his sleeve pulled back, exposing a woven leather wristband held together by a faded golden thread.

Anna gasped softly, her eyes locking onto his wrist. That bracelet… it feels so familiar. I’ve seen it before… but where? Her head throbbed with a sharp, sudden pain, a fleeting memory of a laughing boy wearing that exact band flashing behind her eyes before dissolving into darkness.

“Goodbye, young lady,” Darien said gently, stepping back into the car.

As the limousine pulled away, Anna looked down at her small wooden cash box. Lying inside was a crisp stack of high-value bills totaling five thousand dollars.

Her eyes went wide. “You’ve received five thousand dollars?!” she gasped, running a few steps down the sidewalk after the disappearing car. “Wait, sir! You paid way too much! I must find him and return his money!”

Before she could take another step, her classmate Lola came running down the street, breathlessly grabbing Anna’s arm.

“Hurry, Anna!” Lola screamed, her eyes wide with excitement. “They just announced it over the academy loudspeakers! Your boyfriend, Herman, won the Douglas Innovation Award! And guess who’s presenting it to him? Darien Douglas himself—the most powerful man in the country!”

Anna’s heart leaped into her throat, tears of pure joy springing to her eyes. “He won? He actually won! This means… this means Herman’s really going to propose to me tonight! Let’s go!”

Inside the speeding limousine, Darien unwrapped the small lotus cake. He took a single bite, and the moment the delicate flavor hit his tongue, his eyes widened in sheer shock.

Lotus petals have healing powers. I found the recipe in Mom’s old journal. You must finish it all!

His little sister’s voice echoed with terrifying clarity in his mind.

“Lotus petals…” Darien gasped, dropping the parchment paper. “It’s Anna! Turn around! We’re going back to the cake stall!”

The driver pulled a sharp U-turn, tires shrieking as they sped back to the corner. But when Darien jumped out of the car, the wooden cart was empty and abandoned.

“Where is she?!” Darien yelled, panic lacing his voice.

Kate pointed toward a white apron tossed over the side of the wooden cart. “Sir! Look at the emblem on that apron. It’s the kitchen uniform for Douglas Academy! All kitchen staff are required to serve at the awards banquet today!”

Darien’s face hardened into absolute determination. “Let’s get to the banquet now!”

Meanwhile, the grand hall of Douglas Academy was packed with hundreds of cheering students, faculty, and high-society guests. Banners hung from the vaulted ceilings, and crystal chandeliers illuminated the massive stage.

“Yo! Herman Drake!” a group of male students shouted, raising their glasses. “Youngest guy to snag the Douglas Innovation Award! Let’s go!”

In the front row, Gareth Drake stood with his chest puffed out, beaming with pride beside his daughter and wife. “My son’s a born genius!” Gareth boomed for the entire room to hear. “Of course he won!”

“That’s right,” Herman’s sister chimed in, tossing her hair arrogant. “My brother’s still in school and he’s already caught the attention of Darien Douglas—the most powerful dude in the world!”

“OMG, I’m dying to see Darien Douglas,” a female student whispered nearby. “A literal billionaire, insane power vibes, and no social media! So mysterious!”

“And he’s been looking for his lost sister for like a decade,” another added softly. “Imagine having a brother that loyal. Couldn’t be mine!”

From the dark observation balcony overlooking the main floor, Darien stood in the shadows, his eyes scanning the crowd below. Kate hurried to his side, whispering quietly into his ear.

“There, sir,” Kate pointed down at the main table. “That’s Herman Drake.”

“And where’s his girlfriend?” Darien demanded, his eyes searching every corner of the room. “The cake girl?”

“She’s serving drinks near the side entrance, sir,” Kate replied.

Darien’s gaze landed on Anna, who was standing quietly near the catering tables, her eyes locked onto Herman with absolute, radiant pride. She’s the same age as my sister… and her cake with lotus petals was exactly like Anna’s, Darien thought, his hands clenching into fists. Could this girl really be my little sister?

Down on the floor, Anna squeezed her hands together, her heart fluttering as Herman stepped up to the main microphone. Herman looks so handsome, she thought, her eyes shining. I can’t believe we’ll finally be engaged today!

Herman tapped the microphone, smiling charismatically at the cheering crowd. “Hey everyone! I’d like to dedicate this award to the person who has had my back from day one. She has always supported me, and none of this would have happened without her!”

In the crowd, Lola squeezed Anna’s hand tight. “He’s going to propose! I’m so happy for you, Anna!”

“Anna deserves it,” another kitchen worker whispered warmly. “She spent three years working on that patent while working overtime at the school kitchen and selling cakes for her wedding fund. She’s remarkable.”

Standing in the shadows of the balcony, Darien heard every word. His eyes widened slightly. Anna wrote the patent… not Herman.

On stage, Herman took a deep breath, holding out a velvet ring box toward the front row.

“This one’s for you,” Herman declared loudly, his voice echoing across the auditorium. “The love of my life… Ivy Kingsley!”

Part 3: The Ultimate Betrayal

The entire grand hall fell into an eerie, suffocating silence.

Anna froze, the tray of glasses in her hands rattling violently. The smile on her face shattered into pieces, her eyes wide with utter disbelief as she watched Ivy Kingsley—the arrogant, wealthy heiress of the powerful Kingsley family—step gracefully up onto the stage.

Ivy wore a sweeping ruby-red gown, her face glowing with triumph as she wrapped her arms around Herman’s neck. Herman pulled her close, kissing her deeply right in front of the entire school, before slipping a massive diamond ring onto her finger.

Above in the VIP balcony, Darien’s eyes turned darker than a stormy night. “They will pay the price,” he whispered, a terrifying pressure beginning to build around him.

“The Darien Douglas, billionaire CEO of Douglas Corp and Supreme Sorcerer, is literally pulling up to our school just to hand me this award,” Herman announced into the microphone, his arm wrapped possessively around Ivy’s waist. “But it was Ivy who did all the heavy lifting on this patent! She deserves this just as much!”

Ivy leaned into the microphone, giving a soft, wicked laugh. “Anything for you, baby. Though honestly, I have no clue what that patent even is, and I don’t care! Herman is going to get rich, and he’s mine!”

“No…” Anna’s voice cracked, her tray slipping from her hands and shattering onto the marble floor. The loud crash echoed through the silent room, drawing every eye toward her. “I’m the one who worked day and night to design that patent… and I gave it to Herman because I loved him!”

Ivy sneered down at her from the elevated stage. “Ivy’s the best girl for Herman,” someone in the crowd whispered loudly. “Her aunt Vivi Kingsley is our school’s president! The Kingsleys practically run this place! Ivy’s dad, Trevor Kingsley, is the VP for Douglas Corporation’s regional branch!”

Anna stumbled forward, her knees trembling as she pushed through the crowd toward the stage. “Herman! There’s been a mistake! We love each other! You promised to marry me!”

Gareth Drake, Herman’s father, stepped into her path with a look of pure disgust, shoving her back. “You really thought my brilliant son would throw away his life on a filthy little kitchen maid?!”

Herman’s sister stepped up beside her father, laughing in Anna’s face. “My brother’s going to be honored by Darien Douglas—literally the most powerful man in the world! And you’re just a rando! Nobody even knows which gutter you crawled out of!”

Up on the balcony, Darien took a sharp step forward, his staff crackling with blue lightning.

“How dare they, sir?” Kate whispered fiercely. “Should I intervene now?”

“We don’t yet know for sure if this girl is real,” Darien said, forcing himself to stay back, his knuckles white as he gripped his staff. “Where are the DNA test results?”

“They’ll be here in ten minutes, sir,” Kate replied quickly.

“I want them in two,” Darien growled. “Make it happen.”

Down below, Anna looked up at Herman, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. “Herman, you promised! You said you loved me! I supported you for three years!”

Herman leaned over the edge of the stage, looking down at her like she was dirt beneath his shoe. “You’re dumb and useless, Anna. I wouldn’t be with a loser like you if you were the last girl on Earth!”

“You said you loved me!” Anna sobbed.

“Aren’t you the orphan who works in the school kitchen just to pay tuition?” an associate of Ivy mocked loudly. “That’s her! Always turning up looking like she rolled out of an oven!”

Ivy stepped down from the stage, walking slowly toward Anna with an empty glass of thick, red tomato juice in her hand. “Look at you,” Ivy purred, her eyes cold and vicious. “I know Herman’s a total catch, but did you honestly think he’d pick you? A worthless orphan with no lineage, no name, and no family?”

“He’s a catch now because I gave him my patent!” Anna screamed back, her spirit refusing to be crushed completely.

“Shut up, Anna! Stop embarrassing yourself!” Herman barked from the stage.

“Herman’s mine now, and there’s nothing between you two anymore,” Ivy sneered, stepping right into Anna’s face. “He chose me. I’ve got videos of us together, too. Want to see?”

Without warning, Ivy tipped her glass, pouring the sticky red tomato juice directly over Anna’s head. It drenched her dark hair, running down her face and staining her clean white apron.

The crowd gasped, some laughing, others wincing in cruelty.

“How dare you!” Anna yelled, thrusting her hands forward in anger.

“You piece of trash!” Ivy shrieked, slapping Anna hard across the face. The impact knocked Anna to her knees. “I’m a Kingsley! My family rules this town!”

Up on the balcony, Kate hurried over, holding a glowing digital pad. “Sir! The DNA results are out! It’s confirmed… Anna is your sister!”

Darien’s eyes ignited with absolute, terrifying magic. “My staff… now!”

Down on the floor, security guards grabbed Anna by her arms, dragging her roughly to her feet.

“Let go of me!” Anna struggled.

“So Herman stole your patent,” Ivy mocked, grabbing Anna’s hair and pulling her head back. “Aw, poor little Annie! She’s got no fam, no squad… no one to protect her! You’re an icky, unwanted stray, Anna! No one’s coming to rescue you!”

“I’d rather die than apologize to a thief like you!” Anna spat back through her bloodied lip.

Ivy smiled cruelly, pulling a pair of heavy brass shears from a nearby velvet display. “You mind if I teach this lying bitch a lesson, Herman? Apologize right now, or I’m dragging you naked across the whole damn campus!”

“Herman!” Anna cried out one last time. “I gave you everything!”

“Stop lying, Anna!” Herman shouted back coldly. “You’re worthless! You never gave me anything! You don’t even deserve to breathe the same air as us!”

“Don’t you dare touch Anna!” a voice roared across the auditorium.

The sound was like a thunderclap that shattered the glass chandeliers overhead. High above, a glowing figure leapt from the VIP balcony, descending through the air and landing heavily on the marble stage with an explosive shockwave of pure magical force.

The security guards holding Anna were blasted backward, crashing into the tables. The crowd screamed in terror, scrambling away as dust and blue lightning filled the room.

When the smoke cleared, Darien stood in front of Anna, his massive sorcerer’s staff planted firmly into the shattered stone floor.

Anna looked up from the ground, her eyes wide with shock as she wiped tomato juice from her face. “Sir? It’s you… you bought my cake. What are you doing here?”

Darien turned to her, his heart breaking at the sight of her bloodied lip and stained apron. Tears shone in his eyes as he gently extended a hand to her. “I should have come earlier,” he whispered, his voice trembling with intense emotion. “I promise… I won’t spare those who hurt you, Anna.”

She doesn’t remember me, Darien thought painfully, sensing the dense fog covering her mind. My little sister doesn’t remember me…

“Sir,” Kate whispered, rushing to his side. “Anna lost her memory in a drowning accident five years ago. She doesn’t remember anything before that.”

Herman stepped forward on the stage, his face red with anger. “Who the hell are you?! You think you can attack my engagement party and walk away, you punk?! Do you know who you’re talking to?!”

Gareth Drake sneered, pointing at Darien. “He’s a nobody! Nobody’s siding with a kitchen helper!”

“Listen!” Herman yelled arrogantly. “The CEO of Douglas Corporation will be here any moment to honor Ivy and me! So get out before he arrives!”

Darien slowly turned around to face Herman and Ivy. The ambient temperature in the room dropped to near freezing. “You two enjoy bullying others, don’t you? Not anymore.”

“Back off, weirdo!” Ivy snapped, holding her head high. “Do you know who you’re talking to?! My aunt is the president of this school, and my dad is the VP at the local branch of Douglas Corporation!”

“Is that so?” Darien said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “Since Miss Kingsley is so arrogant about her status… perhaps it’s time she learns who I am. Summon my guards.”

Ivy burst into loud laughter. “Oh, really? Think you can scare me? I can’t wait for Darien Douglas to arrive and show you your place!”

Anna grabbed the hem of Darien’s coat, her eyes filled with desperate worry. “Sir, please! Please leave before it’s too late! These people are cruel… I don’t want to drag you down!”

Darien looked down at her, his expression softening into profound tenderness. “You may not remember me, little one… but I’m your brother. And I’m not letting you go.”

Part 4: Stripped of Glory

Ivy’s arrogant laughter echoed off the marble walls. “Too late for that, Anna! You two are dead for crossing me!”

Darien stepped past Anna, his eyes locking onto Herman with lethal intensity. “You’re Herman, right? Anna loved you so much. She trusted you, and you betrayed and bullied her. What kind of a man are you?”

Herman sneered, adjusting his lapels. “Save your breath. I’m the man who won the Douglas Innovation Award. A loser like Anna is no match for me!”

“Anna’s a fool!” Ivy added arrogantly, wrapping her arm around Herman’s. “Of course she got dumped! Herman’s the youngest winner of the prestigious Douglas Innovation Award! He deserves someone classy like me!”

“Enough!” Darien’s voice boomed, cutting through the hall like a razor. “Everyone here knows how Herman got that award. Anna gave him her designed patent! It’s her idea, her hard work! Herman is nothing but a fraud!”

A wave of low murmurs rippled through the crowd of students. “Yes… that’s right,” Lola called out from the back. “Anna worked on that for three years!”

Herman scoffed, waving his hand dismissively. “Who cares about a patent made by an orphan? She should feel grateful that I even took it from a simp like her! Darien Douglas, CEO of Douglas Corporation and the most powerful man in the world, has bestowed this award on me! Only HE has the right to take it away!”

Darien raised his staff, slamming its base against the marble floor. A blinding beam of golden light erupted from the tip, shattering the giant glass trophy holding Herman’s award into fine dust.

“Well, in that case,” Darien declared, his voice echoing with absolute divine authority, “I hereby strip Herman Drake of the Douglas Innovation Award!”

“What is wrong with you, you jerk?!” Ivy shrieked, pointing a finger at Darien.

“You’re about to know who I am,” Darien said coldly. “I’ll make you answer for what you did to Anna.”

“You are delusional!” Ivy spat back. “Herman is my fiancé now! And let me warn you, no one in this school dares to go against me or my family!”

Anna reached out again, tugging on Darien’s sleeve, her voice trembling. “Sir, please don’t risk your life for me! The Kingsleys are very powerful… don’t worry about the patent. I’ll submit an official complaint to the royal court. Let me bear the consequences.”

Darien felt his heart break all over again. My little sister… she’s always sacrificing for others. But not anymore.

“A complaint?” Ivy laughed hysterically. “File it, and I’ll ruin you!”

“Your sense of entitlement is appalling, young lady,” Darien warned softly.

“That’s because my aunt Vivian is the president of this school!” Ivy bragged, her chin held high. “She controls everyone who goes here! File that complaint, Anna, and I’ll make sure you’re expelled from school and fired from your kitchen job!”

Gareth Drake chimed in, laughing along. “Heard that?! My son’s going to be part of the Kingsley family now! Try filing a complaint, and they’ll make sure you disappear forever!”

“Yeah!” Herman sneered. “File all the complaints you want! No one listens to losers!”

“You guys can’t crush people and get away with it all the time!” Anna cried out.

“Yes, we can,” Herman said coldly, leaning in closer to Anna. “You’ve lost your memory, Anna. You have no cash, no clout… and remember, you transferred all your savings to my account today. Without a job, you’ll basically starve. But lucky for you, I’m in a good mood. Maybe I’ll ask Ivy to go easy on you if you drop to your knees right now and beg for it!”

“Anna won’t apologize,” Darien interjected, stepping between them. “You two will apologize to HER.”

“Us? Apologize to this filthy little stray?” Ivy sneered. “In your dreams, loser!”

“Anna’s not a stray!” Lola shouted from the back of the room, stepping forward despite her trembling legs. “She’s a remarkable girl who got deceived by a scoundrel! And hear me, Ivy—Herman will betray you, too!”

“Shut up, you lunatic!” Ivy screamed at Lola. She picked up an ornate ceramic vase from a display table and smashed it on the floor. “This vase is a family heirloom from the Kingsleys! My aunt and father control this school! They will destroy all of you!”

Darien looked at her like she was an insect. “You’re such an ignorant brat. Trust me… if your aunt or dad dare to show their faces here, they’ll kneel before me, begging for mercy.”

At that exact moment, Kate stood near the side entrance, holding her phone to her ear as President Vivian Kingsley entered the building.

“Greetings, Miss Kate,” Vivian said smoothly over the phone.

“Miss Vivian,” Kate said sternly into the receiver. “Your niece is causing immense trouble at the awards banquet. You had better come and take care of it right away.”

Vivian’s eyes widened on the other end. “Does this mean… CEO Douglas is at the banquet right now?!”

“He is,” Kate confirmed.

“I’ll be right there, Miss Kate! Get the car ready—we’re going to the banquet floor immediately!” Vivian hung up, her heart pounding. She turned to her assistants. “They found Darien Douglas’s long-lost sister, the heiress to the Lotus Empire! And she’s at Douglas Academy right now!”

Back inside the grand hall, Herman laughed mockingly at Darien. “Bro, you’re seriously deluded to think that Ivy’s uncle and dad will beg you—a roadside nobody—for mercy!”

“Well, it’s time this nosy creep pays for his arrogance,” Ivy snarled. “Security! Break this man’s legs and throw him out!”

“No!” Anna screamed, throwing her body in front of Darien. “Come at me if you want! Don’t harm him!”

“Oh, don’t worry, troublemaker—no one’s sparing you either!” Ivy grinned maliciously. “Get her!”

Darien’s eyes flared with blinding blue light. “I don’t care how rich or powerful your families are. You two will pay for hurting Anna. No one can save you today. No one gets away with hurting my little sister!”

Anna looked at him, tears streaming down her face. I’ve never had a real family that I can remember, she thought, her heart swelling with a strange, deep comfort. But how I wish I had an older brother like him…

“You talk too much for someone about to get schooled!” Gareth Drake shouted, stepping forward with four security guards.

Suddenly, the side doors burst open, and Trevor Kingsley—VP of the regional branch—stepped into the room, flanked by his personal entourage. “What the hell is going on here?!” Trevor demanded, his voice booming. “This banquet was in my prospective son-in-law’s honor!”

“Dad!” Ivy ran to him, putting on a fake, tearful voice. “Anna’s creating a scene! She insulted me and dragged in some rando who’s demanding that you, Aunt Vivian, and I apologize to them!”

Trevor’s eyes narrowed as he glared at Darien. “Listen carefully, you rat. Douglas Academy runs on merit and legacy! You have neither! Overstep again, and you’ll regret it!”

Darien looked Trevor up and down with absolute contempt. “So, you’re Herman’s future father-in-law… Trevor Kingsley. You should ask your daughter what she and Herman did to Anna.”

Gareth Drake sneered. “Anna’s a worthless orphan who was always clinging to my genius son! He can do as he pleases with her!”

“And who the hell are you to lecture me on my turf?!” Trevor barked.

“I see where Herman and Ivy get their arrogance and cruelty from,” Darien said smoothly. “Like father, like son… like father, like daughter.”

“Watch what you say!” Trevor roared. “Security, escort him out!”

Two guards lunged at Darien, but with a flick of Darien’s wrist, a wave of kinetic magic slammed into them, blasting them off their feet.

“Back up!” Darien growled, stepping in front of Anna. He turned slightly, looking down at her softly. “You okay, little one?”

He turned back to Trevor, his voice dropping into a register that made the floor tiles vibrate. “Get down on your knees and apologize to Anna now. Don’t worry, Anna… I’m going to make them pay for hurting you.”

Part 5: The Shield of the Innocent

“I’ll show you who’s going to pay, you pauper!” Trevor Kingsley roared, raising his hand to signal his high-level battle mages. “Get him!”

“No! Please stop!” Anna cried out, trying to pull Darien back.

Gareth Drake stepped up beside Trevor, his face twisted in rage. “You’ve got some nerve to defy our orders! Security, wipe him out!”

“That’s enough!” a voice called from the crowd of kitchen workers. Kevin, a young student worker wearing a flour-stained apron, stepped out alongside Lola. “You’ve gone too far! We’re done letting you bully Anna!”

Ivy sneered, turning her glare onto Kevin. “I can bully anyone I want! And if you don’t shut up, I’ll have my aunt expel all you losers!”

“We won’t go!” Kevin yelled back, his voice trembling with brave determination. “Anna’s always been so kind to us! She sacrificed so much for your fiancé, Herman! I’m done watching you treat her like dirt!”

“That’s right!” Lola added, stepping up beside Kevin. “We won’t stay quiet anymore!”

“Shut up, you trash!” Trevor barked, stepping toward the student workers. “I won’t be threatened by a bunch of low-class kitchen hands!”

“Are you okay, Kevin?” Anna asked worriedly, stepping toward her friends.

“I’m fine, Anna,” Kevin said softly. “We won’t let them bully you anymore.”

Gareth Drake scoffed, looking at Kevin’s file on his tablet. “Kevin… your poor single mother is dying of cancer, isn’t she? She emptied every cent of her pathetic janitor savings to send you here. If you’re expelled, she’ll die of heartbreak because of you!”

Kevin turned deathly pale, stumbling back as if hit.

Gareth turned his glare to Lola. “And Lola… your little orphan scholarship won’t save you either! Keep pushing, and I’ll toss you right back to the sewer you came from! No school, no work, no future! And as for the rest of you… one more word in Anna’s support, and I’ll wipe out your futures for good!”

Ivy laughed mockingly. “Wow, Anna! Dragging everyone down with you! Why don’t you just go jump off a cliff or something?!”

Anna’s eyes filled with tears of pure agony. She turned to Gareth Drake, her voice breaking. “Professor Drake… please! It’s not their fault! Please don’t drag them into this!”

Gareth smirked cruelly. “Sure, I’ll gladly spare your loser friends on one condition. If you’re so noble… cut yourself right now. Show them your blood is worth their lives!”

“Anna, no!” Lola screamed.

“You can’t fire us!” Kevin yelled at Gareth. “You’re just a professor!”

“Not anymore!” Gareth gloated, pulling a folded parchment with a gold seal from his inner coat pocket. “Look at this carefully! It’s an official letter appointing me as the new Dean of Sorcery Studies, signed by Darien Douglas himself—CEO of Douglas Corporation and owner of Douglas Academy!”

The student workers gasped in horror. “What?! How is this possible?!”

Herman cheered, clapping his father on the back. “Dad, that’s awesome! You’ve been promoted! These losers are going to be ruined, and we’re going to be rich!”

Ivy sneered at Anna. “Anna, I wonder how you and your band of nobodies will survive after being fired by the Dean himself? Spoiler: you won’t!”

“Gareth Drake,” Darien’s voice cut through the laughter like a frozen blade. He stepped forward, reaching out his hand. The official appointment letter in Gareth’s hand suddenly burst into blue flames, instantly turning to ash before it hit the floor. “You are no longer the Dean of Sorcery Studies at Douglas Academy. You are fired.”

Gareth stared at his empty, ash-covered hand in absolute shock. “You dirtbag! Who are you to fire me?! You destroyed an order signed by Darien Douglas—the most powerful man in the world! Prepare to die!”

“You’re fired from Douglas Academy,” Darien continued coldly, “and I’ll make sure you’re blacklisted from every other academic institution in the nation. Someone who abuses their power to crush the helpless doesn’t deserve to teach.”

Gareth burst into hysterical laughter. “You’re going to fire me?! Man, I needed a good laugh today! I can’t wait for Mr. Douglas to walk through those doors and show you your place!”

Anna grabbed Darien’s arm, her eyes wide with frantic concern. “Please, sir! You must leave! Mr. Douglas is a very powerful, dangerous man… don’t risk your life for me!”

Darien looked down at her, his eyes shining with unshakeable devotion. “You’re my little sister. I’d lay down my life a thousand times to keep you safe. Don’t worry, Anna… Darien Douglas hates bullies. He would do the exact same thing for you.”

He glanced over at Kate, nodding slightly. “Kate… make sure each of these students is properly rewarded for supporting Anna.”

“A beggar gifting beggars!” Ivy mocked loudly. “You’ve messed with the wrong crowd! My aunt is the president of this school, handpicked by Darien Douglas himself!”

“Miss Vivian Kingsley is your aunt?” Darien asked, a dark smirk playing on his lips. “Don’t be surprised, kid, if she goes down on her knees and begs me to forgive you.”

Trevor Kingsley scoffed loudly. “The president of Douglas Academy—the most elite school in the country—asking for YOUR forgiveness?! You’re hilarious, bro! There’s no need to bother the president. I’ll deal with this scumbag myself!”

Just then, the double doors at the back of the hall burst open. Vivian Kingsley hurried into the room, flanked by two senior administrators.

Trevor grinned triumphantly. “Aunt Vivian! Perfect timing!”

Vivian ignored her family, her eyes darting frantically around the room until they locked onto Darien standing in front of Anna. She froze, her face draining of all color.

“Aunt Vivian?” Ivy called out, pointing at Darien. “This broke, slimy nobody has been causing trouble and backing that kitchen maid! Teach him a lesson he’ll never forget!”

Vivian rushed forward, but instead of attacking, she slapped Ivy hard across the face, sending her spinning to the floor.

“Aunt Vivian?!” Ivy shrieked, holding her bruised cheek.

“You foolish girl!” Vivian screamed, her entire body shaking with terror. “Do you know who he is?! He can ruin you, me, and our entire family with a single word!”

Trevor stared at his sister in utter confusion. “Vivian, I think you are mistaken! This man is just a troublemaker!”

“How dare you point fingers at him?!” Vivian yelled back, her voice cracking.

Gareth Drake sneered, stepping up. “President Kingsley, this dude is all talk! He promised precious gifts to these broke students five minutes ago, and still nothing! We’re waiting, Mr. Delusional!”

Darien didn’t even look at Gareth. He simply checked his silver pocket watch. “The gifts have arrived.”

Part 6: The True Price of Arrogance

The heavy double doors of the grand hall swung open wide. A line of twelve immaculate, white-gloved couriers marched into the room, each carrying a velvet-covered silver tray. Behind them stood armed guards carrying heavy, iron-bound chests.

The crowd gasped in utter bewilderment.

“What the hell?!” Herman muttered, staring at the procession. “How can this broke-ass pauper afford these gifts? And for them? Literally the bottom-tier student workers! There’s no way!”

“I bet these gifts are fake!” Ivy shouted from the floor, scrambling to her feet. “Aunt Vivian, he’s just a phony Anna hired to spite us! Anyone can rent a couple of extras to walk in with trays! These gifts are as worthless as he is!”

Darien stepped toward the student workers, completely ignoring Ivy’s screeching. “I’ll show you who I am. But first… I must repay kindness. You guys supported Anna. You risked being expelled to do what was right. That makes you true heroes.”

Ivy laughed mockingly. “Heroes?! More like zeros flipping nuggets in the cafe because they can’t afford tuition! Anna, maybe you and this fake dude should start a GoFundMe for these losers!”

Darien smiled softly at Kevin. “On behalf of Anna, I’d like to gift each one of you a life-changing gift. Kevin… I heard about your mother’s condition. She is being moved to Apollo Cancer Hospital as we speak. Douglas Corporation will pay for all her medical expenses. Furthermore, your education at Douglas Academy is fully funded by Douglas Corporation.”

The room fell dead silent.

“Apollo Hospital?” a student whispered in horror. “The best, most expensive medical center in the country? A private room there costs a million dollars a day!”

Gareth Drake’s jaw dropped. “How can this pauper afford such a costly gift?! Who the hell is he?!”

Kevin fell to his knees, tears pouring down his face. “Sir… I… I can’t accept this! It’s too much!”

“You deserve it,” Darien said gently. He turned to Lola. “Lola… you stood up for Anna like a true friend. I hear you’re graduating this month and heading back to the orphan house you grew up in because you haven’t landed a job. Well… here is an official job offer from Douglas Corporation with an annual starting salary of one million dollars. And here are the keys to your new penthouse in Marina Bay.”

Lola stared at the glowing golden key card in utter shock. “A million a year for a college grad?! Marina Bay?! Even billionaires can’t get property there!”

Trevor Kingsley’s face turned bright red. “You’ve got some nerve handing out fake job offers! My dad’s the regional VP! He’s about to arrive and wreck you for this!”

“And for the rest of you who stood by Anna,” Darien announced to the remaining student workers, “a full scholarship covering all tuition and living expenses through graduation.”

“That’s enough!” Ivy screamed, her face contorted with rage. She grabbed a heavy glass pitcher from a catering table and lunged at Anna. “You think you can get Herman back with these cheap tricks?! I’ll show you!”

“Don’t you dare!” Darien snapped. With a wave of his hand, an invisible barrier slammed into Ivy, knocking the pitcher from her hands and sending her tumbling backward.

Darien turned to Anna, his voice filled with deep pride. “It’s your time, Anna. Show your bullies who you are. You’re my little sister. No one gets to walk over you.”

“Fight back, Anna!” Lola cheered.

Anna stepped forward, her eyes flashing with a sudden, fierce strength she hadn’t felt in five years. She walked up to Ivy, who was trembling on the floor.

“Stop it, Anna!” Herman yelled, stepping in front of Ivy. “You’ll never be better than Ivy! And I’ll never be with a loser like you!”

“Oh yeah?” Anna said softly, her voice filled with icy clarity. “Let’s see how much you really love Ivy, Herman.” She turned to Darien. “Thank you.”

Suddenly, the side doors opened again, and George Meyers—Head of Regional Operations for Douglas Corporation—walked into the room, holding a glowing golden scroll.

Trevor Kingsley rushed over to him. “Mr. Meyers! Thank goodness you’re here! We were just throwing out this nobody Anna dragged in!”

George Meyers looked past Trevor, his eyes landing on Darien standing beside Anna. His face turned pale as snow. He instantly dropped to both knees, pressing his forehead against the floor.

“Mr. Douglas!” George trembled violently. “Forgive us!”

The entire room gasped in profound, paralyzing terror.

“Mr. Meyers?!” Trevor stammered, stepping back. “Why are you kneeling to this pauper?!”

“You reckless fool!” George shrieked up from the floor. “Do you know who you are pointing at?! This is Darien Douglas—CEO of Douglas Corporation, Supreme Sorcerer, and the most powerful man in the world!”

Ivy stumbled back, her eyes wide with horrific realization. “No… no, that’s impossible! He wears a cheap bracelet from a dollar store!”

Darien looked down at the faded bracelet on his wrist, his eyes filled with dark, terrifying power. “This bracelet was a gift from my sister ten years ago… and you tried to destroy it. Now, you will pay.”

He turned to George Meyers. “Meyers… take care of it now.”

George stood up, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “Trevor Kingsley… you are fired as Regional VP of Douglas Corporation, effective immediately! Furthermore, you and your entire family are blacklisted from every partner, affiliate, and associate of Douglas Corporation worldwide!”

Trevor collapsed onto his knees, his eyes hollow. “Blacklisted… by Douglas Corporation? I’ll never be hired by anyone again…”

Gareth Drake began to sweat profusely, backing away toward the exit. But Darien’s cold gaze locked onto him and Herman.

“And as for the Drake family,” George declared sternly, “Herman Drake is stripped of all academic standing, expelled from Douglas Academy, and the Drake family is officially blacklisted from all corporate ventures!”

Herman fell to the floor beside his father, clutching his head in panic. “No! No! This can’t be happening!”

Part 7: The Reunion of the Lotus

The grand hall was filled with the sound of weeping and desperate pleas. Gareth Drake, Trevor Kingsley, Herman, and Ivy were all down on their knees, begging for mercy from the very man they had tried to crush minutes earlier.

“Mr. Douglas! Please!” Herman sobbed, crawling toward Darien’s feet. “It was all a misunderstanding! I was tricked by Ivy! I still love Anna! I’ll marry her right now!”

Anna looked down at Herman with utter disgust. “I could never marry or be with someone like you, Herman. You’re a coward and a thief.”

Darien waved his hand, and security team members swarmed forward, grabbing Herman, Gareth, Trevor, and Ivy by their arms, dragging them toward the exit.

“Take them away,” Darien ordered coldly. “They will answer for fraud, theft, and harassment in court.”

As the disgraced families were dragged out, crying and screaming, the remaining students and faculty bowed their heads in deep respect.

Darien turned back to Anna. The cold, lethal aura surrounding him vanished completely, replaced by a raw, overwhelming tenderness. He reached out, his trembling hands taking hers.

“Anna…” Darien whispered, tears finally spilling over his dark eyes.

Anna looked at him, her chest heaving as memories began to crash through the fog in her mind like breaking waves. She looked at his face, at his dark eyes, and down at the faded leather bracelet on his wrist.

“Darien, big brother! Don’t leave!” a little girl’s voice echoed in her head. “I made this bracelet for you so you’ll always remember me!”

Anna gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as tears flooded her eyes. “Darien…?”

“You remember me, little one?” Darien sobbed, pulling her into his arms and holding her close against his chest. “I’m sorry, Anna… I’m so sorry it took me ten years to find you.”

“Big brother!” Anna wept, burying her face into his coat, her long-lost memories flooding back in a brilliant flash of warmth and light. “I thought I was all alone… I thought no one was coming for me!”

“You are never alone again,” Darien swore fiercely, resting his chin on her head. “No one will ever hurt you again.”

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors at the main entrance burst open once more. An elderly man with white hair, wearing regal purple sorcery robes, stepped into the hall, flanked by high-ranking magical guards.

“Lord Sha Douglas…” Kate whispered in surprise.

Darien turned, his expression hardening slightly as his father walked toward them.

Lord Sha stopped a few feet away, his old eyes fixed on Anna, filled with profound grief and remorse. “Anna… my daughter.”

Anna shrank back slightly, clutching Darien’s arm.

“Ten years ago,” Lord Sha said, his voice trembling with age and regret, “I made the biggest mistake of my life. I thought your raw, uncontrollable magic was a curse… I separated you from your brother to protect him, and because of it, I lost both of my children. Darien cut ties with me, and you disappeared into the world.”

He dropped to his knees before his daughter, bowing his head. “I don’t ask for your forgiveness, Anna… I only wanted to see you safe.”

Anna looked at the old man, then up at Darien. “Darien… he’s our father.”

Darien took a deep breath, looking down at his kneeling father, the anger that had burned inside him for ten years finally softening. “Get up, Father. Today is not a day for tears… it’s the day my sister comes home.”

Darien turned to face the entire assembly of students, faculty, and corporate executives. He raised his silver staff high into the air, causing a brilliant lotus emblem of gold and blue light to bloom across the vaulted ceiling of the hall.

“Ten years ago, I lost my little sister,” Darien announced, his powerful voice echoing into every corner of the room. “But today, I found her again—and discovered that she is everything this company and this world needs.”

He reached out, taking Anna’s hand and pulling her up beside him under the glowing lotus crest.

“Meet the true creator of the regeneration patent,” Darien declared with immense pride, “the heiress to the Lotus Empire, and the new co-CEO of Douglas Corporation… my sister, Anna Douglas!”

The entire grand hall erupted into thunderous applause and cheers. Lola, Kevin, and the kitchen workers cheered at the top of their lungs, tears of joy streaming down their faces.

Anna looked out at the cheering crowd, then up at her brother, a radiant, beautiful smile gracing her face. She held his hand tight, feeling the soft leather of the bracelet between their fingers.

The dark days of hiding in the shadows, scrubbing floors, and enduring cruelty were over. She was no longer the forgotten orphan of the kitchen.

She was Anna Douglas—and with her brother by her side, her light would never be stolen again.
