“He Sent His Pregnant Wife To A Brutal Asylum For His Ex, Unaware She Was A Secret Billionaire Heiress Who Bought His Sight—Until She Returned From ‘The Dead’ To Destroy Him”
Part 1
“Mrs. Andrea, congratulations. You are pregnant. The baby is six weeks old.”
The doctor’s warm, professional voice echoed softly in the quiet examination room. Andrea Sterling froze on the edge of the clinical bed, her hand hovering just above her stomach. Tears instantly welled in her eyes, blurring the sterile fluorescent lights above.
“Are you serious, Doctor? Are you completely sure?” she asked, her voice cracking with pure, unadulterated joy.
The physician smiled, turning the ultrasound screen toward her. “Absolutely. The fetus is developing normally. However, you must rest. The first trimester is a critical stage. Do not overexert yourself or engage in any heavy physical activities.”
“Thank you, Doctor! Thank you so much!”
Andrea clutched the precious paper ultrasound to her chest as she stepped out of the clinic into the crisp afternoon air. Five years. For five long years, she and her husband, Lawrence, had prayed for a child. They had endured the hardest years of their lives together—years when Lawrence was completely blind following a catastrophic car accident, penniless, and abandoned by everyone he knew. Andrea had sacrificed her own elite standing, hiding her true identity as the sole heiress of the vast Sterling empire, just to care for him, wash his clothes, cook his meals, and stand as his eyes in the dark.
And now, he had recovered his sight. He had built his own business empire, Nine Stars Group. They were whole, and today, she was bringing him the ultimate gift.
Andrea practically floated into their quiet, sunlit villa, holding a fresh bouquet of white lilies—his favorite.
“Lawrence! I’m home!” she called out cheerfully, sliding off her coat. “I have the most wonderful news to tell you!”
She walked into the living room, but stopped dead in her tracks.
Lawrence was standing by the mirror, wearing a tailored navy suit, meticulously adjusting a silk tie. On the foyer table rested an extravagant, massive arrangement of three hundred red roses—imported, costly, and dripping with decorative ribbon.
Andrea’s smile faltered slightly. “What’s the occasion today? Who are those flowers for?”
Lawrence didn’t turn around immediately. His voice was cool, preoccupied. “Where are you going dressed like that, Andrea? I’m going to see someone.”
“Who are you buying those roses for, Lawrence?” Andrea asked, stepping closer, a faint thread of anxiety pulling at her heart. “I’m asking you a question.”
Lawrence turned around, grabbing the heavy arrangement of red roses. His eyes, once so full of gentle warmth when he was blind, now looked right through her with cold impatience.
“Serena is back in the country,” Lawrence stated casually. “I’m heading to the airport right now to pick her up.”
The world seemed to spin on its axis. Andrea felt as if the air had been violently sucked out of her lungs. “Who did you say? Serena?”
“I’ve mentioned her to you before,” Lawrence snapped, checking his watch. “My ex-girlfriend.”
“Your ex-girlfriend?” Andrea’s voice trembled, a bitter, burning sensation rising in her throat. “Back then, when you were in that terrible car accident, when you were completely blind and broke, she abandoned you without a second thought! She fled abroad to chase her own life! And now she comes back, and you rush to the airport to welcome her? You even bought her a massive bouquet of red roses?!”
“All of that is in the past, Andrea!” Lawrence barked, stepping toward the front door. “Back then, she had a valid reason to leave!”
“A reason?!” Andrea yelled, tears finally spilling over her cheeks as she blocked his path. “What reason could possibly justify abandoning the man you claimed to love when he needed you most?!”
“Lawrence, move aside! I don’t want to argue with you!” Lawrence grabbed her shoulder, trying to brush past her. “Get out of the way, I’m going to be late!”
“No! I won’t let you go!” Andrea cried out, grabbing the edge of the rose basket, pulling back with all her strength. “Give me those flowers! You can’t do this to me, Lawrence!”
“Let go, Andrea!” Lawrence yelled, losing his temper completely. With a sharp, aggressive shove, he pushed her away from him.
Andrea stumbled backward, her heel catching on the thick carpet. She fell hard onto the polished marble floor, her lower abdomen striking the corner of a heavy wooden side table with a dull, sickening thud.
A sharp, searing pain shot through her stomach, instantly paralyzing her breathing.
“Ah!” Andrea gasped, dropping her ultrasound picture as she clutched her abdomen, curling into a ball. “Lawrence… my stomach… it hurts so much…”
Lawrence paused for half a second, staring down at her with an annoyed scowl. He scoffed loudly. “Andrea, I only pushed you lightly. Stop pretending. You’re playing victim just to keep me here.”
“Lawrence… please…” she choked out, her vision blurring with unbearable pain. “I’m not… pretending…”
Before he could answer, Lawrence’s phone chimed with a video call. He tapped the screen instantly, his face melting into a look of tender, frantic concern that Andrea had not seen in years.
“Darling! I just landed,” a soft, melodious voice cooed through the speaker. “Where are you?”
“I’m already on my way to the airport, Serena,” Lawrence said softly, turning his back entirely on his wife weeping on the floor. “I’ll be there soon. Don’t worry. I’ll have my driver drop Andrea off at the hospital if she feels unwell. We’ll talk about this when I get home tonight.”
Without another backward glance, Lawrence stepped over the white lilies scattered on the floor, opened the grand oak doors, and walked out, slamming the door shut behind him.
The heavy thud of the door echoed through the empty villa. Andrea lay on the cold marble floor, clutching her belly as hot tears burned her face. Blood began to seep slowly through her pale yellow dress, staining the floor beneath her.
“My baby…” she sobbed into the silence, her fingers digging into the carpet as dark spots danced across her eyes. “My baby… help me…”
Part 2
An hour later, Andrea sat alone on the edge of a bed in a private hospital room. The doctor had managed to stabilize her condition, but the warning was dire: severe physical impact and extreme emotional stress had threatened an immediate miscarriage. She needed bed rest, complete calm, and absolute protection.
Yet, as she held the delicate white bandage pressed against her arm, she knew she couldn’t stay in the hospital. She had to face Lawrence. She had to show him the ultrasound, tell him about their child, and force him to choose between his family and the ghost of his past.
When Andrea returned to the villa that evening, the living room was ablaze with light. Laughter, smooth jazz, and the rich aroma of expensive steak filled the foyer.
Andrea stepped into the grand living room, her face pale, holding her medical folder tight against her chest.
Sitting on the plush leather sofa was a stunning woman dressed in a delicate, cream-colored silk gown. She was sipping wine, leaning comfortably against Lawrence’s shoulder.
“Lawrence, I missed you so much,” Serena purred softly, resting her hand over his. “I’m so sorry I left you back then. It was because… I was diagnosed with a severe heart condition. I didn’t want to become a burden to you…”
Lawrence’s eyes were filled with profound heartache as he held her fingers. “Don’t say another word, Serena. It’s enough that you’re back. I’m here now, and I will never let you suffer again.”
Andrea stood in the archway, her heart breaking into a thousand jagged pieces. She stepped forward, her voice trembling with cold rage. “Lawrence.”
The music seemed to freeze. Lawrence looked up, his expression instantly darkening into an irritated grimace. Serena, however, smiled smoothly, sliding off the couch and gracefully walking toward Andrea.
“Hello,” Serena said, holding out a delicate, diamond-adorned hand. “I’m Serena. Lawrence’s lover.”
Lawrence’s lover.
The words struck Andrea like a physical blow. She looked at Serena’s pristine, arrogant face and felt an overwhelming wave of disgust. “How dare you speak like that?” Andrea snapped, ignoring the outstretched hand. “You abandoned Lawrence when he was blind and destitute! Why are you coming back now? Get out of my house! Get out!”
“Andrea! What is wrong with you?!” Lawrence roared, standing up abruptly and pulling Serena behind his back. “How dare you speak to Serena like that?! Apologize to her right now!”
Andrea stared at her husband in absolute disbelief. “Apologize?! Lawrence, I am your lawful wife! She just stood right in front of my face and declared herself your lover! What am I to you then?!”
“It’s just a title! What’s the big deal?!” Lawrence barked dismissively. “Serena is sick! She has a fragile heart condition and needs proper rest. Go clean out the master bedroom so she can stay there.”
The world seemed to stop. Andrea gasped, her hands shaking violently. “You… you want me to give up our master bedroom? That is our marital bedroom! I bought this house with my own money!”
“I am notifying you, Andrea, not asking for your permission!” Lawrence yelled, stepping right up to her face. “From now on, this is Serena’s home, too! And I am the master of this house!”
Serena leaned against Lawrence’s arm, looking at Andrea over his shoulder with a small, vicious, triumphant smirk. “Lawrence, my heart hurts a little… take me upstairs to rest, please.”
“Of course, darling. Let me help you up,” Lawrence murmured gently, placing an arm around Serena’s waist and leading her toward the grand staircase, completely stepping around Andrea as if she were mere trash on the floor.
Andrea stood in the center of the living room, her eyes burning, clutching her belly where her unborn child rested. She looked up at his retreating back and shouted with every shred of dignity she had left:
“Lawrence! If you let that woman sleep in our home tonight, we will get a divorce tomorrow!”
Lawrence didn’t even pause. He continued walking up the stairs, placing his hand over Serena’s, brushing off his wife’s ultimatum as a pathetic bluff.
Later that evening, after Lawrence had settled Serena into the guest wing, Andrea walked quietly down the dimly lit hallway to fetch a glass of warm water.
As she reached the top of the stairs, Serena stepped out of the shadows, her delicate, sickly demeanor completely vanishing. She leaned against the mahogany railing, crossing her arms, looking down at Andrea with utter disdain.
“Look at you,” Serena sneered, her voice dropping into a low, venomous whisper. “You look like a pathetic, homeless dog.”
“Get out of my way, Serena,” Andrea said coldly, trying to walk past her.
Serena blocked her path, a mocking smile curling her red lips. “Do you know why Lawrence has been so cold to you ever since I stepped off that plane? Do you want to know the real reason?”
Andrea kept her eyes fixed forward. “I have no interest in your lies.”
“It’s because you are nothing more than my substitute,” Serena hissed, leaning closer to Andrea’s ear. “I was away, and he was a lonely, blind man who needed a woman to scrub his floors and manage his life. You just happened to be there. You were a convenient temp worker.”
“That’s a lie,” Andrea whispered, her knuckles turning white around her glass.
“Is it?” Serena laughed softly. “Just look at how he treats me compared to how he treats you. He threw you on the floor for a bouquet of roses, Andrea. He doesn’t love you. He never did.”
Suddenly, the quiet sound of footsteps echoed from the far end of the hall. It was Lawrence, walking out of his study.
Serena’s eyes flashed with a sudden, psychotic brightness. Before Andrea could comprehend what was happening, Serena grabbed Andrea’s wrist, forced Andrea’s hand against her shoulder, and threw herself backward off the top of the staircase.
“AHHHHHHH!” Serena screamed violently, tumbling down the flight of carpeted steps, crashing dramatically onto the landing below.
“SERENA!” Lawrence roared from the end of the hall. He sprinted past Andrea, his face pale with pure horror.
Andrea stood at the top of the stairs, completely frozen, her heart slamming against her ribs. “No… no, I didn’t… I didn’t push her!”
Lawrence rushed down the stairs, lifting a crying, bleeding Serena into his arms.
“Lawrence… Andrea… she tried to kill me!” Serena sobbed hysterically, burying her face in his chest. “She said I took you from her… she pushed me down the stairs! I’m so scared!”
Lawrence raised his head, his eyes burning with a terrifying, murderous fury as he stared up at Andrea standing at the top of the steps.
“Andrea!” Lawrence roared, his voice echoing off the high ceilings like thunder. “You better pray to God that nothing happens to Serena… or I will make you pay for this with your life!”
Part 3
“Lawrence! Listen to me! I didn’t push her!” Andrea screamed, running down the stairs after him as he carried Serena toward the front door. “She jumped on her own! She framed me!”
“Shut up!” Lawrence snarled, turning around to glare at her with pure hatred. “Serena is pure, innocent, and terrified of pain! Why would she ever jump off a staircase?! You are a cruel, jealous, malicious monster!”
He handed Serena over to his personal driver, ordering him to rush to the hospital, before turning back into the villa. He grabbed Andrea roughly by the arm and dragged her into the center of the living room, shoving her down onto her knees.
“Kneel down!” Lawrence commanded. “When Serena gets back, you will stay on your knees and beg for her forgiveness! If she forgives you, I might consider letting you live!”
Andrea looked up at her husband from the floor, tears streaming down her face, her body shivering uncontrollably from physical exhaustion and psychological shock.
“Why won’t you believe me, Lawrence?” she wept softly, clutching her chest. “We have been married for five years. Five years! Do you really not know what kind of person I am? I gave you my youth, my care, my entire heart when you had nothing! How can you think I would try to murder someone?!”
“Enough of your pathetic performance!” Lawrence yelled, grabbing a heavy glass from the table and smashing it onto the floor beside her. “I’m asking you for the last time—will you kneel and apologize or not?!”
“I will never apologize for something I did not do!” Andrea said, her voice rising with unyielding dignity.
Lawrence’s face twisted in dark, ruthless anger. “It seems you won’t bow down until you see your own coffin. Fine. If you won’t learn manners here, I will send you somewhere that will teach you.”
He turned to his head head of security, Winter. “Send her to the Bedlam Reformation Facility.”
Winter’s face went instantly pale. “Mr. Lawrence! Sir… the Bedlam facility? That place is filled with violent lunatics and sadistic wardens! If you send the mistress there, she won’t survive a week!”
“That is her punishment for hurting Serena!” Lawrence shouted coldly. “I will only bring her back when she is ready to bow her head and crawl on her knees to beg Serena for mercy! What are you standing there for?! Drag her away!”
Two heavy security guards stepped forward, grabbing Andrea by her arms and pulling her off the floor.
Panic flared in Andrea’s chest. The Bedlam facility was notorious across the state—a private, illegal asylum used by wealthy families to lock away unwanted relatives, ran by cruel wardens who broke human spirits for money.
“Lawrence! No! Please!” Andrea screamed, struggling against the guards’ iron grip. “You can’t send me there! Lawrence, look at me! I’m pregnant! I’m carrying your baby! Our child!”
Lawrence froze for a split second, his eyes darting to her face.
Before he could speak, his phone rang. It was Serena’s doctor calling from the emergency room. Lawrence immediately answered the phone, listening to the doctor describe Serena’s minor bruises and elevated heart rate.
“Don’t listen to her lies!” Lawrence barked into the room, ignoring Andrea’s cries. “She’s just using a fake pregnancy to escape her punishment! Take her away immediately!”
“Lawrence! Please! It’s our child! Lawrence!”
Her screams echoed down the long driveway as the black security van slammed its doors shut, swallowing her into the darkness of the night.
Two hours later, Andrea was shoved into a cold, damp, concrete cell deep within the basement of the Bedlam Reformation Facility. The air smelled of mold, rust, and iron.
Standing over her was the head warden, a large, sinister woman named Matron Agnes, holding a thick leather whip in her heavy hands. Beside her stood her thirty-year-old son, Jack—a crude, unwashed man with yellow teeth and wild, predatory eyes.
“So,” Matron Agnes sneered, tapping the whip against her palm. “Mr. Lawrence sent you here to learn some humility. He gave strict instructions to break your stubborn spirit.”
Andrea pushed herself against the cold stone wall, clutching her belly protectively. “I didn’t do anything wrong… Please… let me go. I’m pregnant…”
Jack chuckled darkly, taking a step closer, his eyes scanning Andrea’s pale face and delicate frame. “Mother… look at her skin. She’s a rich man’s wife. Look how soft she is.”
“Stay back, Jack,” Agnes warned mildly. “She’s Lawrence’s wife. If he comes back for her, we can’t have her completely ruined.”
“Bah!” Jack scoffed, waving his hand dismissively. “Mother, if Lawrence actually cared about this woman, would he have thrown her into a hellhole like Bedlam? He explicitly told your guards he didn’t care if she lived or died! He abandoned her! She’s a nobody now!”
Jack leaned down, his foul breath hitting Andrea’s face. “Hey, pretty lady… if you satisfy me tonight, maybe I’ll tell my mother to stop whipping you.”
“Get away from me!” Andrea screamed, striking Jack across the face with all her remaining strength.
SLAP!
Jack stumbled back, his eyes turning bloodred with rage. He wiped his cheek, letting out a psychotic laugh. “You little bitch! You dare touch me?!”
He turned to his mother. “Mother, knock her out! Tie her to the wooden cross!”
“Jack, don’t torture her to death,” Agnes warned indifferently, turning her back. “If something happens, I won’t cover for you.”
“Don’t worry, Mother. I’m just going to have some fun with Mr. Lawrence’s precious wife!” Jack roared.
Two guards rushed in, grabbing Andrea’s arms, pinning her against a heavy wooden post in the center of the room. Jack picked up a heavy leather strap and struck her across the back.
PAANNGG!
“AHHHHHHH!” Andrea shrieked as the leather tore through the thin fabric of her dress, searing into her flesh.
“I’ll ask you again!” Jack yelled, striking her again. “Do you admit you pushed Miss Serena down the stairs?!”
“I didn’t push her!” Andrea wept, blood dripping down her back. “I didn’t do anything wrong!”
“Still stubborn! Hit her!”
Pain after pain rained down upon her body. Andrea’s vision blurred as cold sweat and tears mixed on her face. She closed her eyes, her mind desperately clinging to the memories of five years ago—the memory of a young, blind Lawrence sitting on a park bench, holding her hand softly in his.
“Andrea… even though I cannot see you, and I don’t even know what you look like… I want to marry you as soon as possible. I swear on my faith… I will love only you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?”
“I do…” her past self had answered with a radiant smile.
What a joke, Andrea thought, a agonizing laugh bubbling up her bloody throat. What a terrible, tragic joke.
Jack stepped up to her, his hands grabbing her shoulders roughly, tearing her dress open.
“No… please…” Andrea gasped, her voice barely a whisper. “Please… I’ll give you money… whatever money you want… My baby… I’m two months pregnant… please don’t hurt my child…”
Jack stared at her exposed, bloody collarbone, a disgusting, sadistic grin spreading across his face.
“Pregnant?” Jack chuckled softly, leaning into her ear. “That just makes it so much more exciting.”
Part 4
The rain poured relentlessly over the city of New York, washing over the dark gothic roof of the Bedlam facility.
Inside the basement cell, the silence was deafening.
Andrea lay motionless on the freezing concrete floor, covered in a thin, tattered blanket. Blood pools had dried around her legs. Her unborn child—the little soul she had promised to protect with her life—was gone, washed away in a nightmare of brutality and cold terror.
Her body was broken, her womb permanently damaged by the violent assault and untreated internal infections.
She stared blankly at the high, barred window where gray light filtered through. Her eyes were completely hollow, emptied of all tears, all hope, and all love.
“Lawrence…” she whispered, her voice barely louder than a dying breeze. “If there is a next life… let us never meet again.”
She dragged herself weakly toward the edge of the low stone bench beneath the window, pulling her fragile frame up with her last shred of strength. She looked out at the distant horizon, closed her eyes, and let go.
Meanwhile, at Nine Stars Group headquarters, Lawrence sat in his executive office, staring at a stack of financial reports. His phone rested silently on the desk.
Seven days had passed since he sent Andrea to Bedlam. Seven long days.
Seven days, Lawrence thought, adjusting his gold cufflinks with a scowl. She should have broken by now. Why hasn’t she sent word to apologize to Serena? Is she really that stubborn?
“Boss,” Winter, his assistant, stepped cautiously into the office. “The head of the Bedlam facility is waiting downstairs. She says she has urgent news regarding Mrs. Andrea.”
Lawrence’s chest tightened slightly, though he quickly masked it with a cold scoff. “Let her in. I knew Andrea couldn’t hold out any longer. She’s finally coming to apologize.”
The doors opened, and Matron Agnes stepped into the luxurious office, her face unusually pale, holding a small velvet box in her trembling hands.
“Mr. Lawrence…” Agnes began, her voice shaking.
“Where is she?” Lawrence demanded, standing up and leaning over his mahogany desk. “Did she learn her lesson? Did she agree to kneel and ask Serena for forgiveness?”
Agnes swallowed hard, lowering her eyes. “Mr. Lawrence… I am deeply sorry to inform you. Last night… your wife, Mrs. Andrea… jumped from the roof of the facility. She died on impact.”
The words hung in the air.
Silence—absolute, suffocating silence—flooded the vast executive office.
Lawrence stared at the warden, a small, incredulous smile touching his lips. “What did you say? Say that again.”
“Mrs. Andrea is dead, sir,” Agnes repeated softly. “She committed suicide yesterday evening. Please accept my condolences.”
Lawrence let out a sharp, mocking laugh, though his fingers began to tremble uncontrollably against the desk. “Nonsense! That’s impossible! Andrea is terrified of pain! She cries even when she gets a simple flu shot! How could she possibly jump off a building to kill herself?! You’re lying to me! What game is she playing now?!”
Agnes slowly stepped forward and placed the small velvet box on the desk, opening the lid.
Inside rested a simple, platinum wedding band, scratched and stained with dark, dried blood.
“This was taken from her hand,” Agnes whispered. “If you do not believe me, you can come to the facility morgue to claim her body yourself.”
Lawrence’s gaze locked onto the ring. His breath hitched violently in his throat.
It was the ring. The exact custom-made engagement ring he had placed on her finger five years ago in a small, run-down chapel when he was still blind.
“Boss…” Winter gasped, stepping forward in sheer horror. “Should… should I prepare the car?”
“I’ll go myself!” Lawrence yelled, his voice cracking as he snatched the ring off the table. “I’m going right now! She’s lying! She’s trying to trick me!”
As Lawrence rushed out toward the executive elevator, Serena stepped out from the side hallway, wearing a bright pink designer dress, holding a shopping bag.
“Darling!” Serena beamed, holding his arm. “I was just looking for you! Where should we go for dinner tonight?”
“Move out of the way!” Lawrence barked, shoving her hand off his arm. “I have something urgent to handle!”
“What’s the rush?” Serena asked, her brow furrowing. “I came all the way here just to see you.”
“The warden from Bedlam just told me Andrea committed suicide,” Lawrence said, his eyes bloodshot, his hands shaking as he clutched the ring. “I need to go verify it.”
Serena’s heart leaped with hidden, ecstatic joy. Dead?! That bitch is finally dead?!
However, her face instantly transformed into a mask of sweet, gentle concern. She grabbed Lawrence’s sleeve, pulling him back.
“Suicide? Lawrence… do you really believe that?” Serena said softly, shaking her head. “A woman as manipulative as Andrea? How could she jump off a building? She’s obviously faking her death to trick you into feeling guilty so you’ll bring her out of Bedlam!”
Lawrence froze, staring at Serena. “Faking her death…?”
“Think about it, darling,” Serena urged, her voice dripping with venomous care. “She was only in there for a week! Why would she die right now? It’s clearly a pathetic trick to gain your pity! If you go there now, you’re falling right into her trap! She wants to humiliate you!”
“She’s right, Boss…” Serena added, turning to Winter. “Don’t let Lawrence be fooled by that woman’s games.”
Lawrence stood in the center of the hallway, holding the blood-stained platinum ring in his palm. His mind raced frantically, torn between the terrifying visual of her blood-stained ring and Serena’s smooth, convincing words.
Yes… Lawrence thought, desperately trying to anchor his mind to sanity. Andrea has always been soft. She’s terrified of death. She must be bribing the warden to trick me into taking her back…
“Boss,” Winter spoke up hesitantly. “Perhaps I should go to the morgue to verify the body myself. I don’t think Mrs. Andrea would ever use her own life as a joke…”
“Winter! What do you mean by that?!” Serena snapped furiously. “Are you saying you understand Andrea better than Lawrence does?!”
“No, Miss Serena… I just think—”
“Enough!” Lawrence interrupted loudly, his face hardening into an arrogant, bitter mask. “She just wants to play the victim, and I won’t give her the satisfaction! I don’t know how much money Andrea paid that warden to lie for her. From this day forward, whether Andrea lives or dies has nothing to do with me!”
Serena smiled brilliantly, hugging his arm tightly. “Oh, darling! You’ve finally come to your senses! Let’s go have dinner!”
Lawrence turned to Matron Agnes, throwing the blood-stained ring into her chest. “Take this trash and get out of my sight!”
Agnes caught the ring, bowed her head silently, and turned to walk out of the building.
Outside, sitting in the back of a black luxury limousine parked across the street, an elderly, powerful man with piercing gray eyes watched the scene through tinted windows.
It was Victor Winston—the chief executor of the global Sterling Estate and the lifelong trusted guardian of the late Mr. Sterling.
Sitting beside him in the back seat was a young woman, wrapped in thick medical bandages, an oxygen line resting beneath her nose. Her face was deathly pale, her eyes staring blankly at the entrance of Nine Stars Group.
It was Andrea.
Victor looked down at the young woman he had sworn to protect, tears welling in his old eyes.
“Leah…” Victor whispered softly, using her true Sterling family name. “I arrived too late… I am so sorry, my child.”
Part 5
Inside the quiet, high-tech private medical transport, Victor Winston held Andrea’s cold, trembling hand.
Two days ago, Victor’s private intelligence network had finally tracked Andrea down to the illegal Bedlam facility. They had staged a high-risk covert raid, extracting her broken body from the basement cell, replacing her in the official facility records with a deceased Jane Doe body procured from a local morgue. The death certificate was forged, the media was bribed, and to the entire world, “Andrea, the wife of Lawrence,” was officially dead and cremated.
“Uncle Victor…” Andrea’s voice was barely a breath, her chest rising and falling weakly. “Is my baby… really gone?”
Victor wept silently, stroking her hair. “I am so sorry, Leah… The doctor tried everything. The trauma was too severe… and the infection…”
He paused, unable to bring himself to speak the final medical diagnosis: Severe uterine destruction. Permanent infertility.
Andrea closed her eyes, a single, clear tear slipping down her temple.
“I lost everything…” she whispered softly. “My baby is gone. My home is gone. I have nothing left…”
“You still have me, Leah!” Victor said fiercely, squeezing her hand. “You still have the Sterling family! I promised your late father on his deathbed that I would protect you with my life! Your father was right… Lawrence was never worthy of your sacrifice.”
“My father was right…” Andrea murmured, her voice stripped of all emotion. “It was my own foolishness… my own stubbornness that made me marry him. It was all my fault…”
“It was NOT your fault!” Victor declared firmly. “Listen to me, Leah! From today onward, ‘Andrea’ is dead. You are Leah Sterling—the sole heir to the multi-hundred-billion-dollar Sterling Global Group! You have an empire waiting for you!”
Andrea looked out the window as the city lights blurred past. “Uncle Victor… send me to Switzerland. I need to recover… I need to get strong.”
“Good,” Victor nodded, his eyes flashing with lethal promise. “Rest, my child. When you are ready, we will return to New York… and take back everything that belongs to you.”
Three weeks passed in New York.
At the villa, Lawrence stood in the center of the master bedroom. The room was empty. All of Andrea’s clothes, her books, her simple jewelry had been cleared out by the maids under Serena’s orders.
Yet, an unexplainable, suffocating heaviness hung over Lawrence’s chest. Every night when he closed his eyes, he heard her voice echoing in the hallway:
“Lawrence, please… I’m pregnant… I’m carrying our child…”
He tossed and turned, sweating profusely, suddenly bolting upright in bed at 3:00 AM.
“Winter!” Lawrence barked into his intercom.
Winter stepped into the bedroom seconds later. “Yes, Boss?”
Lawrence rubbed his face, his voice tight. “Go to the hospital. Check the medical archives. Find out if Andrea… if she was actually pregnant when she was taken to Bedlam.”
Winter hesitated, then bowed his head. “Yes, Boss.”
Two hours later, Winter stood in the head obstetrician’s office at New York Central Hospital. He presented his credentials and demanded Andrea’s confidential file.
The senior doctor pulled up the digital file, turning the screen toward Winter.
“Mrs. Andrea was indeed examined here four weeks ago,” the doctor stated clearly. “She was eight weeks pregnant. The ultrasound showed a perfectly healthy fetus with a strong heartbeat.”
Winter felt his blood run cold. “Are you… are you 100% certain? There’s no mistake?”
“None at all,” the doctor replied. “I remember her vividly. When she received her positive test results, she was crying with joy. She told me she couldn’t wait to run home and surprise her husband.”
Winter stood frozen in the doctor’s office, feeling as though the room were collapsing around him.
He left the hospital, his hands shaking as he pulled out his phone to call an informant inside the Bedlam facility staff. He paid a massive sum for an anonymous, off-the-record meeting in a secluded alleyway.
Thirty minutes later, an ex-guard from Bedlam met Winter behind a warehouse.
“Tell me the truth about what happened to Andrea,” Winter demanded, shoving an envelope of cash into the guard’s jacket.
The guard looked around nervously, his voice hushed. “When the woman was brought in, Matron Agnes ordered us to tie her to the cross in the punishment room and whip her daily. She refused to admit any guilt, saying she didn’t push anyone. Even when her skin was torn open, she wouldn’t bow her head.”
Winter’s jaw tightened violently. “And then?!”
“Then… the warden’s son, Jack, came in,” the guard whispered. “He saw her and wanted her. Matron Agnes hesitated, but Jack said Mr. Lawrence sent her here to be broken, meaning nobody cared if she lived or died. Jack ordered us to pin her down… and he raped her.”
Winter gasped, his eyes wide with horror.
“The woman wept hysterically,” the guard continued, “begging him to stop, screaming that she was pregnant with her husband’s baby. But Jack said her pregnancy made him even more excited. That night, she bled immensely… the baby was lost right there on the floor. And hours later, she jumped from the top roof.”
“You animals…” Winter choked out, his fists clenching until his knuckles turned white. “You disgusting, vile animals!”
Winter stumbled back to his car, sitting in the driver’s seat for a long time, holding the official hospital pregnancy report in one hand and the guard’s audio recording in the other.
He knew that presenting this to Lawrence would completely destroy the man. But if he kept silent, Andrea—a woman who had treated every employee with gentle kindness for five years—would have died in vein.
Winter started the engine and drove straight to Nine Stars Group.
He pushed open the heavy oak doors of the executive suite. Lawrence was sitting at his desk, staring blankly at the window.
“Did you check?” Lawrence asked quietly, without turning around.
Winter didn’t say a word. He walked up to the desk and laid the white hospital document directly in front of his boss.
Lawrence looked down. Written in bold, official print at the top was the diagnostic header: OBSTETRIC ULTRASOUND REPORT: FEMALE, AGE 25. PREGNANT – 8 WEEKS.
Lawrence’s eyes locked onto the paper. His breath hitched sharply. “This… this is…”
“She wasn’t lying, Boss,” Winter said, his voice dropping into a grave, hollow tone. “Mrs. Andrea was carrying your child.”
Lawrence’s hands began to shake uncontrollably. He picked up the paper, his eyes scanning the date—the exact date he had shoved her onto the floor over a bouquet of roses for Serena.
“She… she was really pregnant…” Lawrence whispered, his voice trembling violently. “My child… our baby…”
“There’s more, Boss,” Winter said softly, pressing play on the digital audio recorder.
The recorded voice of the Bedlam guard filled the quiet room, echoing off the glass walls:
“Jack ordered us to pin her down… and he raped her… She wept, screaming that she was pregnant with her husband’s baby… She bled immensely… the baby was lost… and she jumped from the top roof…”
CRACK!
The glass cup in Lawrence’s hand shattered into pieces, blood dripping from his palm onto the desk.
He fell out of his chair, dropping to his knees on the carpet, clutching his head as a blood-curdling, agonizing scream tore from his lungs.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Part 6
“I killed her…” Lawrence wept hysterically, slamming his fists into the floor, blood smearing across the rug. “I killed my own wife! I killed my own child! I dragged her into hell with my own hands!”
Winter stood silently in the corner, watching his powerful, arrogant boss crumble into a broken, sobbing mess on the floor.
“Boss…” Winter whispered. “There is one more thing.”
Lawrence slowly raised his tear-stained, bloody face. “What else…? WHAT ELSE?!”
“Serena never had a heart condition,” Winter revealed coldly. “I had our team audit her medical history abroad. Every single hospital document she presented to you regarding her heart disease was completely falsified.”
Lawrence’s sob caught in his throat. He stared at Winter, his eyes wide with disbelieving terror. “What…?”
At that exact moment, the office doors swung open. Serena walked in, carrying a lunch box, wearing a bright smile.
“Darling! I had the chef prepare your favorite lunch—”
She stopped mid-sentence.
Lawrence was kneeling on the floor in a pool of shattered glass and blood, staring up at her with eyes so red, so terrifyingly dark, that Serena involuntarily stumbled backward.
“Lawrence… what happened to your hand?!” Serena gasped, rushing toward him.
“Get away from me!” Lawrence roared, standing up and slapping the lunch box out of her hands, sending food flying across the room.
BAM!
Serena shrieked in terror. “Lawrence! What’s wrong with you?!”
Lawrence grabbed the pregnancy report off his desk and slammed it violently against her face. “Andrea was eight weeks pregnant! She was carrying my child! Did you know?!”
Serena’s face turned pale, but she quickly tried to cover it with tears. “I… I didn’t know! She never told me!”
“YOU LIE!” Lawrence screamed, his voice shaking the entire floor. “She screamed that she was pregnant right in front of your face when my guards dragged her away! And you told me she was faking it!”
“Lawrence… I… I was just afraid of losing you!” Serena sobbed, grabbing his coat. “I love you so much! I lost my temper for a second!”
“Love me?!” Lawrence let out a psychotic, maniacal laugh. “You lied about your heart condition! You lied about Andrea pushing you down the stairs! You framed my wife! You murdered my child!”
He grabbed Serena by her throat, dragging her across the floor toward the door.
“Lawrence! No! Please! Forgive me!” Serena shrieked, clawing at his hands.
“Get out of my house! Get out of my company!” Lawrence growled, throwing her violently into the public hallway outside his office, where dozens of employees stood staring in utter shock. “Winter! Send Serena to the Bedlam Reformation Facility! Let her experience every single ounce of agony that Andrea suffered!”
“Yes, Boss!” Winter replied instantly.
“No! Lawrence! You can’t do this to me! LAWRENCE!” Serena’s screams faded down the corridor as security guards dragged her away.
That evening, a dark sedan pulled up to an abandoned alleyway in the red-light district.
Jack, the warden’s son, was staggering out of a illegal gambling den, counting a wad of cash. Suddenly, two black vans boxed him in. Four heavy men leaped out, dragging Jack into the back of an industrial truck.
Inside the truck, lit by a single harsh spotlight, sat Lawrence. His hand was heavily bandaged, his face hollow, his eyes resembling those of a demon straight from hell.
Jack trembled violently, recognizing Lawrence instantly. “Mr… Mr. Lawrence! What… what is this?!”
Lawrence slowly stood up, holding a heavy iron rod in his gloved hand.
“Bedlam facility…” Lawrence whispered softly, his voice devoid of any human warmth. “My wife, Andrea… do you remember her?”
Jack’s face drained of all color. He dropped to his knees, slapping his own face wildly. “Mr. Lawrence! I’m sorry! I was blind! I was just doing it for money! My mother made me do it!”
“She was carrying my child,” Lawrence whispered, stepping closer, raising the iron rod high above his head. “You killed my child.”
“NO! PLEASE! SPARE ME—”
CRACK!
A horrific scream echoed inside the enclosed truck, followed by the sickening sound of breaking bones.
Hours later, Lawrence sat alone in his empty villa, surrounded by darkness. He held a bottle of heavy whiskey in one hand and Andrea’s blood-stained wedding ring in the other.
He stared at the blank wall where her portrait used to hang.
“Andrea…” he sobbed softly, pressing the ring to his lips, tears washing over his bruised face. “I was wrong… Leah, please… come back… come back to me…”
He raised the bottle, drinking until his throat burned, collapsing onto the cold living room floor where she had once bled for him—trapped in a self-made purgatory of absolute guilt and endless despair.
Part 7
Two years later.
New York City was buzzing with shock and excitement. The legendary Sterling Global Group—a corporate titan worth over two hundred billion dollars—had officially announced the triumphant return of its sole global heir.
Tonight, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed with world leaders, Wall Street tycoons, and international media. Banners flashed, cameras clicked continuously, and security was airtight.
Standing at the edge of the grand ballroom, dressed in a tailored black tuxedo, was Lawrence.
In two years, he had changed completely. He was thin, pale, with silver threading his hair prematurely. He rarely spoke, living like a ghost inside Nine Stars Group, spending every waking hour trying to atone for his sins, pouring billions into charitable maternal foundations named after Andrea.
“Boss,” Winter whispered beside him. “The guest of honor is arriving.”
The massive double doors opened.
A woman stepped into the ballroom. She wore a breath-taking, backless emerald silk gown. Her hair was styled in flawless Hollywood waves, diamonds sparkling at her throat, her posture commanding, royal, and utterly unshakeable. Beside her walked Victor Winston.
The crowd gasped.
“Miss Leah Sterling!” reporters shouted, pressing against the velvet ropes. “Is Sterling Group officially taking over the North American market tonight?!”
Leah Sterling smiled—a cold, radiant, stunning smile. “Sterling never left North American soil. I have simply returned to take back everything that belongs to me.”
Across the room, Lawrence’s glass dropped from his hand, shattering onto the marble floor.
His heart stopped beating. His breath seized.
“Andrea…” Lawrence whispered, his voice cracking. “It’s… it’s her… She’s alive…”
Without thinking, Lawrence pushed violently through the crowd of billionaires and security guards, sprinting toward the stage like a madman.
“Leah! LEAH!” he screamed, tears bursting from his eyes.
Security guards immediately stepped forward to block him, but Leah casually raised her hand, signaling them to let him through.
Lawrence stumbled to a halt three feet away from her. He stared at her face—the flawless skin, the powerful eyes, the complete absence of the soft, timid girl who used to cook his meals.
“Leah…” Lawrence wept, dropping straight onto his knees in front of her, right in front of hundreds of flashing cameras and foreign dignitaries. “You’re alive… You’re really alive…”
Leah looked down at the man kneeling at her feet as if he were nothing more than a speck of dust on her shoe.
“Sir,” she said, her voice smooth, icy, and completely unfamiliar. “Who are you?”
“Leah! It’s me! Lawrence! Your husband!” Lawrence cried out frantically, reaching into his pocket, pulling out the old platinum ring. “Look! Here is our wedding ring! You wore it for five years! You said as long as this ring existed, our marriage remained! Please… forgive me! I will do anything! Anything if you forgive me!”
Leah glanced at the ring in his trembling palm. A soft, cruel laugh escaped her lips.
“What is this cheap piece of trash?” she asked casually. “Guards, take this filthy garbage out of my sight.”
“Leah!” Lawrence begged, clutching her dress hem. “If you want me to die, I’ll die right now! Just say the word!”
“Die?” Leah leaned down, her dark eyes locking onto his soul with absolute, freezing contempt. “Lawrence, dying is far too easy for you. You don’t get to escape your debt that easily.”
She stepped back, letting her dress slip out of his hand, turning her back on him completely as the crowd cheered her name.
Six months later.
The downfall of Nine Stars Group was swift, ruthless, and complete.
Using the vast, unstoppable resources of Sterling Group, Leah systematically dismantled Lawrence’s supply chains, bought out his lenders, and acquired his company’s stock until Nine Stars Group declared complete bankruptcy.
Tonight was the annual Sterling Gala at the Winston Manor.
Rain poured heavily outside. Standing near the iron gates of the manor, soaked to the bone, was Lawrence. He was pale, thin, his liver failing from alcohol abuse, holding a small velvet box in his shivering hands.
Inside the box rested a new ring—a ring he had personally spent three months hand-carving. A heart-shaped diamond flanked by two smaller stones, symbolizing the child they had lost, engraved inside with their initials: L & A.
The iron gates opened. Leah stepped out beneath a large black umbrella held by Victor.
Lawrence collapsed onto his knees in the mud before her.
“Leah…” Lawrence coughed, blood staining his lips. “It’s your birthday today… I made this for you… Please… take it…”
Leah stopped, looking down at him in the rain.
“I don’t need your ring, Lawrence,” she said softly.
“I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness,” Lawrence wept, his chest heaving violently. “I know I killed our child… I know I hurt you beyond repair… But please… let me spend the rest of my life making it up to you…”
“Your rest of your life?” Leah asked, her voice calm and distant. “Look at yourself, Lawrence. You don’t have a ‘rest of your life’.”
Lawrence looked up, tears mixing with the freezing rain on his face.
Suddenly, a dark figure rushed out from the shadows of the alleyway, holding a long, rusted hunting knife, her eyes wild and psychotic.
It was Serena—escaped from the facility, completely insane, covered in rags.
“ANDREA! YOU BITCH! YOU RUINED MY LIFE!” Serena shrieked, lunging straight for Leah’s chest with the knife.
“LEAH! NO!” Lawrence screamed.
Without a second of hesitation, Lawrence threw his body forward, placing himself directly between Leah and the blade.
STAB!
The heavy hunting knife plunged deep into Lawrence’s chest, piercing straight through his heart.
Serena gasped in horror, dropping the knife as security guards tackled her to the ground, dragging her screaming into the night.
Lawrence collapsed backward into the mud, blood spurting from his chest, staining his white shirt deep red.
“Lawrence!” Winter screamed, running over, calling for an ambulance.
Leah stood under her umbrella, looking down at the dying man lying at her feet.
Lawrence raised a trembling, bloody hand, desperately holding out the small velvet box toward her.
“Leah…” Lawrence choked out, blood pouring from his mouth. “This ring… the heart diamond… is my heart… The two small stones… are our baby… I’m going… to take care of our child now…”
Leah’s eyes finally softened slightly, a tear welling in her eyes as she looked at the dying man who had once been her entire world.
“Don’t speak, Lawrence…” she whispered softly.
“Leah… please…” Lawrence gasped, his vision turning completely black. “Tell me… do you… forgive me…?”
Leah knelt down in the mud beside him, taking his cold, bloody hand in hers.
“I forgive you, Lawrence,” she whispered gently into his ear. “I forgive you.”
A faint, peaceful smile touched Lawrence’s pale lips. A single tear slipped down his cheek as his breathing slowed, then stopped completely. His hand fell limp, the velvet box slipping into the wet earth.
Leah sat in the pouring rain, holding his cold hand, looking up at the dark sky above.
“Goodbye, Lawrence,” she whispered softly to the wind. “May you find peace… in the next life.”
The rain continued to fall, washing away the blood, the pain, and the bitter memories of the past, leaving behind only the quiet, eternal promise of a fresh dawn.
